Legendary ruins in the district of Ramsbach with a beautiful view.
April 22, 2022
Despite its manageable size, it is a ruin of a spur castle worth seeing, with a moat carved into the rock leading to the mountain and the remains of the shield wall. Nice place to rest, information board with the floor plan of the former Bärenburg and a beautiful view from the highest point. The Bärenburg was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Freiburg and was first mentioned in 1307. Other owners were the Lords of Bärenbach and the Bishops of Strasbourg. After 1470, the castle fell into disrepair. Only 2-meter-high wall remains of the former castle complex remain. The keep had a floor area of 7.5 by 7.5 meters and a wall thickness of 1.7 to 2.2 meters.
