I found the 4th stage of the Renchtalsteig to be the most beautiful so far, since you can walk on light-flooded or open hiking trails and have great views of the Renchtal, Maisach, Lierbach and the Rhine valley over long distances.Black Forest National Park is good and beautiful, but at least the hiking trails should be cleared of fallen trees. From refuge to Schliffkopf you have a special landscape, the "Grinde" -> term for the almost tree-free wet heaths on the flattened red sandstone ridges in the northern Black Forest. It is wonderful to hike there.

The first quarter of the route is beautiful with some highlights. From the Brandstetter chapel to the Kalikutt, the hiking trails are rather barren, except for the Lothard monument and the Moosturm. The last quarter is pretty nice again. The trail is very well signposted. In between, my GPS failed, so my tour goes about 1.5 - 2 km through the middle of the forest, but the hiking trail is almost parallel. At the official end point of the stage, I ran to Oppenau to eat ice cream at the new ice cream shop.

It was a very nice hike, with good hiking trails and some viewpoints. The highlights were the Bärenburg ruins, the Otschenfeld with a view of the Rhine plain (you can see the Staufenberg castle, Durbach and the Münster, Strasbourg), Kalikutt and Vorderbühl.
At the end there was a fire salamander to see, I have been waiting for this for a long time.
