The Mastenbos is located on Kapellen territory and is divided in two by the Kalmthoutsesteenweg. The northwestern part is bounded on the northwestern side by the Oude Galgenstraat and Fort Ertbrand and on the northeastern side by the Antitankgracht. The other part of the Mastenbos is located between the Kalmthoutsesteenweg and the Kapellen – Essen railway line. A trench path has been constructed in this part.

Various types of military fortifications can be found in the Mastenbos, which were constructed or adapted by various authorities during the First and Second World War.
