    The main pumping station

The area of the Mittelland Canal from the Anderten lock to the junction from the Dortmund-Ems Canal is mainly supplied with water from the Weser by the Minden main pumping station. The main pumping station was built between 1912 and 1914 and then inaugurated.[15] It is on the left bank of the Weser and south of the canal. In addition to feeding the Weser water into the Mittelland Canal, electricity is generated by draining excess water into the Weser. Half of the electricity generated in this way (a total of around 500,000 kWh per year) is used for the buildings at the waterway crossing.[16]

The main pumping station was originally supplied by a direct power line from the hydroelectric power station at the Dörverden barrage.[17]

From 1995 to 1999 the main pumping station was overhauled. About 58 million m³ of water are pumped annually. The conveying capacity is 16 m³/s.

Interesting waterway cross with the possibility of a tour

A multi-storey building had to be built to accommodate the pumps, the extensive switchgear and safety systems, the transformers and the lounges for the staff. The building was made of reinforced concrete, including the roof trusses of the single-storey pump hall. The visible surfaces of the outer walls are covered with red sandstone.
For water extraction, the main pumping station is connected to the Weser by a 300 m long feeder canal. To avoid cross currents in the Mittelland Canal, the water taken from the Weser is fed to the Mittelland Canal via a 100 m long calming basin.
