The Minden lock was built between 1911 and 1914 as part of the construction of the Mittelland Canal at the Minden waterway junction, serving as the northern descent to the Weser River and thus providing the shortest connection between the Mittelland Canal and the Weser. A very scenic stretch of water and well worth seeing.

The picturesque city of Minden offers guided tours of the Minden Waterway Junction. Highly recommended.

The waterway junction is one of the region's most important landmarks. It is located in the north of the city, about 2.5 km from the center, where the Mittelland Canal crosses the Weser River.

The lock, built in 1914, with a usable chamber length of 85 m and a width of 10 m, will soon reach the end of its service life and its dimensions will no longer meet the future requirements of modern large motor cargo ships and push convoys.
