Located on the edge of the Arcachon basin, the Pilat dune is an exceptional natural phenomenon. It measures approximately 500 meters wide, 2.7 kilometers long and reaches an impressive height of 110 meters, making it the largest sand dune in Europe.
This dune is a breathtaking spectacle, offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Landes forest on the other. Its fine, golden sand is constantly reshaped by wind and tides, creating an ever-changing landscape.
The Pilat Dune not only attracts more than a million visitors per year, but it is also an important ecological site, with diverse species of plants and animals. Climbing the dune can be a challenge due to its slope and the shifting texture of the sand, but the reward at the top is a stunning panorama, especially magnificent at sunset.

There's no shortage of superlatives for this natural phenomenon. While it may not be the highest dune in the world, it is by far the highest dune in Europe. And who would have thought that the sand here could tower into such a high mountain? But it's not just its height that's astonishing. The Dune du Pilat impresses with its incredible expanse, its fascinating surroundings, and the breathtaking views it offers. Add to that its changing colors depending on the time of day and year, as well as the wonderful feeling of vastness and freedom it conveys.dunedupilat.com/de/die-d%C3%BCne
