Superb place. Take a sea excursion to admire it from the basin

Very nice photo opportunities with the dead trees.

The Dune du Pilat, awarded the "Grands Sites de France" quality label, is the highest migrating dune in Europe and a gigantic natural phenomenon: The sand piles up here to a height of 100 to 115 meters. Due to wind and tides, it moves between one and five and a half meters inland each year. As a result, the maritime pines of the pine forest gradually disappear beneath the dune sand. At the same time, on the ocean side, the dune is submerged by the Atlantic Ocean at a rate of one to three meters per year, causing it to "migrate." An impressive natural spectacle that attracts around 1.5 million visitors every year.

        A true tourist magnet!

The sand of the Dune du Pilat has accumulated to its current height over several thousand years. Strong westerly winds blow the sand up, which comes, among other things, from the enormous Banc d'Arguin sandbank. This is only possible because the sand grains on the French coast are very fine and light.
