The bridge was built in 1928 after a broadening of the Elster flood basin. The predecessor bridge erected at the same place around 1897 was demolished. The name Sachsenbrücke commemorates the change of sides of the Saxon troops to the anti Napoleon coalition.

The Sachsenbrücke (officially got its name in 1901), connects the Clara Zetkin Park (formerly King Albert Park) with both parts. It is car-free, and therefore well suited for cyclists, joggers and pedestrians.

Here is something going on almost every season. In summer you can hardly drive over it, because so many use it as a meeting place.

Whoever travels along the Elster Cycle Path at Clara Zetkin Park, passes this bridge. It is a larger buying point for many locals and students.

Its name was given to the bridge in memory of the change of sides of the Saxon troops by Napoleon Bonaparte to the allies during the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. Official, however, this name was not until November 7, 1901.
The first building on the same site was built in 1897 for the Saxon-Thuringian industrial and commercial exhibition. The bridge in its present execution was created in 1928 after a broadening of the Elster flood bed.

Always lively, somehow alternative, always something going on, just hip, casual sitting on the side of the road, chatting, meeting people, that's city.
