The Leidingshofer valley is named after the nearby village on the plateau above Veilbronn.

The Mathelbach rises in the valley, which also runs through Veilbronn and ultimately ends in the Leinleiter, a tributary of the Wiesent.

Rock canyon, the ram, a pump that drives itself, lush greenery and beautiful views. Often mushy after prolonged rain, but a nice and shady walk, especially when it's hot!

After a covered seat past the Mathelbachquelle the trail runs through the romantic Mathelbachtal. Along the way there are educational boards in front of some trees.

A pump that drives itself !?
Montolfier used the shock waves that occur when a valve suddenly closes to pump water up. The term "Aries" is reminiscent of the impact that the valve of the water column displaces.
This old ram is being kept in check by a gentleman in Veilbronn - thank you very much!
Right next door is a cozy picnic area.

Even from a distance of 100 meters you can hear an unusual knocking / beating sound in silence.
All techies will certainly discuss hydraulics, pressure, leather valve flaps immediately. Or read quietly at home :-)
Great idea to put this unusual pump back into operation for demonstration purposes.

For those interested in technology, an explanation and a schematic drawing are attached next to the ram. If you think about the technology, actually a very simple and logical device. It's great that it is being preserved and cared for!

The valley depicts in miniature everything that makes the Franconian in the big: high surface, dry grass, rocks, holes, cave, bizarre gorge, source, technology, valley with wetland, ...
Just nice and short, you should have walked. Ideal to introduce a guest to the fast Franconian.

Ram, responsible for the water supply to Leidingshof from 1875 to 1960.
The ram is a cyclical water pump without a motor, which was invented by the French Montgolfier in 1796. The ram has only two moving parts, a push valve and a pressure valve. Therefore it is cheap to build and extremely reliable.
Water flows into the ram through a supply line from a spring. This tries to flow out again through a shock valve, but closes a valve by its own force and thus blocks the flow. The sudden pressure surge opens a pressure relief valve, which leads into a pressure vessel with a riser. The air pressure created in the boiler now pushes part of the water into the existing riser to an elevated tank. When the pressure is released, the shock valve falls back and opens the flow. The cycle begins again.
