On June 30, 1898, Pastor Sanderink laid the foundation stone of the new Werenfridus Church. Building the church cost 146,309.28 guilders. The stones for the construction were brought by train from Winterswijk to Lievelde. Here they were transferred to farm wagons with which the stones were brought to Zieuwent. The church was finished in 15 months! The new church was inaugurated on October 10, 1899 and officially put into use on October 12, 1899.
