In the middle of the center of Hittfeld on the Kirchberg in the 13th century, the field stone church was built with a wooden belfry. Particularly worth seeing is the bronze baptismal font.

Exact statements about the foundation of the Hittfelder church and its "parish" can not be made. Written documents are missing completely. During excavations in the course of construction in the years 1955, 1966 and 1979, however, a part of the genesis could be clarified. Several phases of construction can be proved thereby. They start in
9th CENTURY
At the beginning of the 9th century, a first wooden post construction was built on the Kirchberg. He was at least 14 meters long (remnants were found under the present nave). A precise dating has not been possible, but found in this context, a vessel shell from the beginning of the 9th century. Little is known about the appearance of this first church, but it probably resembled a reconstructed first church in the not so distant Tostedt, which dates back to the same period and is about the same size ... ..
