Very beautifully restored castle (worth a visit) with a beautiful, spacious park. Delicious cake in the castle café.

It all began with a small hunting lodge, which was completed in 1735 in what was then called Klenow. The hunting lodge was expanded over the following decades and Duke Christian Ludwig II gave his gem the name "Ludewigs-Lust".
His son and successor Friedrich decided to retire here from the residential city of Schwerin. He completed the work his father had begun, creating a kingdom of wonders of his own. He not only had the court church built, the associated settlement laid out and the garden expanded, but also a completely new palace with its precious sandstone facade built between 1772 and 1776, the forms of which go back to the designs of the French star architect Jean Laurent Le Geay.
Ludwigslust presents itself today as a spectacular and coherent architectural ensemble. The embedding of the castle in the impressive surroundings, with the lines of sight over the cascade to the court church, to the city and on the garden side to the designed nature, completes its unique effect. This fascinating interplay not only invites visitors to Ludwigslust to visit the house, but also to take a walk in the palace gardens. This is a garden work of art in the style of an English landscape park, whose baroque avenues, canals and water features have been preserved to this day.
