The area around Altena is known for its mountains, of which the Brachtenbecker Weg has a special feature: theoretically, only forestry traffic is allowed here, which should ensure a quiet climb for us cyclists. Unfortunately, this mountain is so quiet and has a very scenic route, especially in the upper section, which means that motorcyclists like to ride here, and cars less often. The route is indeed good for practicing hairpin bends, both downhill and uphill. Furthermore, the mountain, with its 5.8 kilometers and 350 meters of elevation gain, presents a pleasant climb, initially flat and then becoming quite challenging. There are plenty of mountains here, and the one described here is a highlight!

Brachtenbecker Weg is closed only to vehicles over 3.5 tons. Otherwise, normal traffic is permitted.
Due to road reconstruction in Nachrodt, only downhill traffic is permitted until the end of October 2017.

The descent towards Altena is a lovely stretch, perfect for a good run. The climb is quite strenuous, but still very beautiful and peaceful.
