Wilhelm Widenmann (1798–1844) had a meteoric career. After an apprenticeship as an accountant, he joined the Feldjägercorps in 1818 and studied forestry at the University of Tübingen from 1820. After the forestry state examination in 1822, he became a private lecturer in Tübingen and took over the Bebenhausen forestry office in 1823, which he gave up again in 1827 in order to be able to devote more time to his studies. In 1829 he was appointed full professor of agriculture and forestry at the University of Tübingen. In 1836 he was raised to the nobility, gave up teaching and became a district forester for the Black Forest district of Württemberg at the time, based in Bebenhausen, where he died in 1844. There is a detailed biography in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographieexternal link.
This monument was erected by his professional colleagues in 1847.
