The design for the green area around Fort Deckstein was made by garden director Fritz Encke in 1923. The work was carried out in the same year or in 1927. The completely overgrown and forgotten rock garden was u.a. redeveloped in 2001 with the support of the Rheinische Verein für Denkmalpflege und Landschaftsschutz.
