Seat of the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Council of the Bar Associations of Rome, the Palace of Justice is also known as “Palazzaccio”, a popular nickname given to it by the Romans for its immense size.
Built between 1889 and 1911 by the architect Guglielmo Calderini, the Palace of Justice is considered one of the great works that followed the proclamation of Rome as the capital of the Kingdom of Italy.

Palazzo di Giustizia is a historical and cultural monument in Rome, which is the seat of the Corte suprema di Cassazione and the Consiglio dell’Ordine degli avvocati di Roma. It is also known as Palazzaccio, a nickname given by the Romans because of its large size and long construction period.
The palace was built between 1889 and 1911 by the architect Guglielmo Calderini, commissioned by the Minister of Justice Giuseppe Zanardelli. It was one of the monumental works realized after the proclamation of Rome as the capital of the Kingdom of Italy.

The palace has a concrete structure and is covered with travertine. It has a triumphal arch as the main entrance, surmounted by a bronze statue of Justice, flanked by the symbolic figures of Law and Force. The facade also has ten colossal statues of famous jurists, made by different sculptors.
Inside the palace is the Great Hall, where the Corte suprema di Cassazione holds its sessions. The hall is decorated with frescoes by Cesare Maccari and Paride Pascucci, which represent scenes from the history of Roman law.
