Interesting for people who have never seen how a lock works. Here you can see it up close. Above the lock you can cross the Aare.

The ship lock attached to the Port regulating weir enables ship traffic between Solothurn and the Jura lakes. The ship lock is located on the right bank of the Nidau-Büren canal. It is 12 meters wide and has a usable length of 52 meters. Ship lock at the Port regulating weir. 4,000-5,000 ships use the lock every year (around 82% private boats, 17% scheduled ships and 1% barges). Source: Website of the Canton of Bern's Construction and Transport Directorate For cyclists, the lock offers a crossing from one side of the Aare to the other. It is also exciting to watch the ships pass through the lock.
