Nieuwstadt is a historic town with currently 3,240 inhabitants in the Dutch province of Limburg, located between the Maas and the German Selfkantgebiet at the narrowest point of the kingdom with only 5 km wide. In 1982 Nieuwstadt was incorporated in Susteren and since 2003 it is the southernmost of the eleven branch centers in the municipality of Echt-Susteren.
