This is the only possible rope route to Horsens Fjord. It was of great military importance to prevent enemy ships from reaching the town of Horsens.
The fortress was probably built during the Swedish War in 1658.
At that time it was advantageous to have a cannon position on a hill so that you could shoot at enemy ships from here.
The two cannons that are now on Svenskeskansen are not original. They come from the ship "Christian VII", which sank in a storm in the winter of 1789.
