The Martyrs Chapel, located outside the village of Neumagen-Dhron between the Moselle and the beginning of the vineyards - built to commemorate the victims of an early persecution of Christians in the 3rd century - invites you to contemplate.

The legend of the Theban Legion: At the same time as the dominance of the Romans in the Middle East, on the Rhine and Danube, the Persians, Alemanni, Franks and Goths shook the borders of the Roman Empire, systematic persecution of Christians continued in the middle of the 3rd century Romans one.
The martyrs chapel located between Neumagen-Dhron and Trittenheim is a reminder of this religious fanaticism. According to legend, the blood of the Christians of the Theban Legion murdered on the Marsfeld in Trier colored the Moselle red up to the level of the chapel. The Martyrs Chapel was built between 1506 and 1510 by Count Salentin von Isenburg and his wife Elisabeth von Hunolstein. A place of worship of the Thebes is said to have stood here as early as the 6th century.

Built 1506 to 1510 by Salentin zu Isenburg, Amtmann zu Pfalzel and his wife Elisabeth von Hanolstein with the approval of Archbishop Jakob von Baden in memory of "The life and death of the Trier martyr on October 6, 286".
