The pretty town of Einsiedeln is best known for its impressive monastery. It is not only one of the most important baroque buildings, but also a stage destination on the Way of St. James.
In winter you can whiz through the area on cross-country ski trails or hit the slopes unsafe. The nearby Sihlsee invites you to surf, sail and swim, especially in the summer months.

A mighty monastery complex, evidence of the former power of the Benedictines, both inside and out. The place is an important center of Swiss Catholicism and a destination for many pilgrims, with the so-called Black Madonna being the most important attraction. Today, however, there are only around 3 dozen monks left. The monastery complex is primarily a humanistic high school in the canton of Schwyz with an attached boarding school.
