The Hofgut Trages is nestled in the gentle hills and dense forests of the Spessart Nature Park. Built in the 14th century, the palace complex was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in the baroque style. At the end of the 18th century the estate came into the possession of the Savigny family, who are still the owners today. The idyllic spot was a retreat for many personalities: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the German Romantics, for example, liked to visit the Hofgut, and the Marburg university professor Friedrich Carl von Savigny was very attached to them. Clemens Brentano, Bettina von Armin and the Brothers Grimm also stayed here. Today there is a golf course and the restaurant at the manor house on the property.

The Trages farm is located in the municipality of Freigericht in the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse, right on the border with Bavaria. It is located at the foot of the Altenmarkskopf (269 m) at an altitude of 212 m above sea level, 2.5 kilometers from Somborn (Hesse), 2.3 kilometers west of the Alzenau district of Albstadt (Bavaria). Birkenhainer Straße, a medieval military and trade route between Rhine and East Franconia, runs a few meters west of the Trages farm in the direction of the “Buchenkopf” hill.
