The port of Lindenau is about 4.5 km west of the city center. It connects the Gründerzeit city with the district of Grünau. Originally the port was planned as part of the Karl-Heine-Canal and the Leipzig-Saale-Canal, but the latter was never completed. The Karl Heine Canal is today an important green axis and water connection in the city. Along its course, attractive cycling and walking paths lead to the center. The Lindenau harbor has now been connected to the Karl-Heine-Kanal and can be used for recreation and recreation.

The construction of the port was in May 1938. In the spring of 1943, the work was stopped, with large parts, including 3 storage houses, the port railway system and the connection to the industrial railway PX were already completed. However, the connections to the Elster-Saale-Kanal and the Karl-Heine-Kanal were unfinished. The port was thus by 2015 not accessible by water.

The project envisaged two transshipment port basins, each 1000 meters long, 90 meters wide and six meters deep, and two industrial harbors north of the transhipment basins. 😊👊🏻
