It was one of the eighteen V1 bases that the German army had built in West Flanders. Forced labourers, especially Russians, were allowed to do the dirty work. They were locked up in labor camps in Markhove and Proven.
Target London
From Proven, the German army wanted to bombard London with V1s, 200 kilometers as the crow flies. The flying bomb had a range of up to 150 miles.
