The Michaelsberg was actually created from a heap of rubble in the 1950s. It is located in the "Maudacher Bruch" nature reserve, a former branch of the old Rhine that was separated from the Rhine around 900 BC. (The term "break" refers to the peat that was "broken" here in the 19th century.) Source: ludwigshafen.de
Beware of confusion: Both this Michaelsberg and a similar hill in nearby Frankenthal are both sometimes called "Monte Scherbelino" - presumably because of a similar "base".
