Best Hikes to Greifenstein Castle Ruins

Tips

  • was a nice place for the castle

  • At the K 6711 district road from Holzelfingen to Ohnastetten there is a hiking car park on the left shortly after leaving the village - from there you can take a nice round to the lookout point of Kleiner Greifenstein and the ruins of Greifenstein. Whether in summer as a walk or in winter with or without snowshoes.

The hill castle was first mentioned in 1160. The castle was destroyed by the Nassau and Solms counts in 1298, as was the Lichtenstein castle, which was no longer built. Kraft von Greifenstein sold the ruins of Greifenstein in 1308 to the king Albrecht of Austria without the consent of the overlord, the Hochstifts Worms.
