The Miraglia chestnut is a monumental tree located near Camaldoli, within the National Park of the Casentinesi Forests, Monte Falterona and Campigna, so named in honor of Mrs. Elena, wife of the commander Nicola Miraglia, who at the end of the nineteenth century was director General of the Ministry of Agriculture. Its dimensions are impressive since its height exceeds 20 m and the base diameter is over 4.2m. The age is not well identifiable since the analysis of the diameter and height of the plant would establish 500 years, however over a century ago the historical register of the forest attributed the plant about 200 years, so today it would be a total of 300.The chestnut has a longitudinal opening of about 10 m and 1.5 m deep in the lower part, so large that in the past years it has housed a table (later removed following the construction of the fence). Despite everything, the plant is still alive and manages to carry the nutrients necessary for its sustenance towards the top. (Source: Wikipedia)
