Billerhuder Insel is still a relatively unknown piece of green in the middle of Hamburg. I like to stop by there every now and then. In particular, I find the great waterfront properties with the houses and boats fascinating. Those who have a domicile there can count themselves lucky. In the middle of Hamburg between Hamm and Rothenburgsort is the idyllic spot of Grün. Still unknown to many Hamburg residents, Billerhuder Insel used to be a place for makeshift homes. Today, the area of the Billerhude garden colony from 1921 extends over almost 300 hectares. With 56 permanent residents and a total of 581 allotment parcels, the island is as big as a small village and special popular with families with children and nature lovers. The island can be reached via the Ausschläger Billdeich or by canoe and boat.hamburg-tourism.de/sehen-erleben/gruenes-hamburg/parks-gruenanlagen/billerhuder-insel

The Billerbuder island is sometimes called Little Venice. This term for the Schreber colony is perhaps somewhat exaggerated. But only a little. Eas for a splendor of apple and cherry trees, fragrant rose bushes, flower beds and lush greenery.
