Stone formation of the Ötzid monument. In my opinion, the ascent and the view of the Vernagter reservoir are more worthwhile than the Ötzidenkmal itself.

The first scientific researcher of the find, Konrad Spindler, initially assumed that the place of discovery was nameless and therefore named the mummy after the Hauslabjoch, which is further north and significantly higher between Fineilspitze and Hauslabkogel (young Neolithic mummy from the glacier of Hauslabjoch, Schnals municipality, Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol, Italy). Subsequently, however, it was pointed out that the crossing, in the immediate vicinity of which the mummy was found, bears the name Tisenjoch, from which the name Mann vom Tisenjoch developed.

From the Vernagt car park (1,699 m above sea level), a challenging mountain tour leads over the Similaun Hut (3,019 m above sea level) to the site where the famous "Iceman" was found, on the Tisenjoch with the slender stone pyramid (3,210 m above sea level). The mummy was preserved in the ice here for 5,300 years and remained hidden as a silent witness for thousands of years.
The total walking time for the ascent and descent is around 8 hours.
