The starting point of the Innerste cycle path is in the forests of the Upper Harz near the town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. From there you start the tour and drive past the reservoirs of the Upper Harz water management system and through the Innerste valley. Here the Harz mining has a cultural tradition and is still present with visitor mines and old heaps.Along the Innerste, the cycle path leads on a former railway track from Wildemann via Lautenthal to Langelsheim, where you reach the edge of the Harz Mountains. From here, a detour to Goslar is worthwhile. Otherwise, continue north through the nature reserve "Mittleres Innerstetal mit Kanstein".You drive through idyllic old villages and past the romantically situated Innerste mills. Worth a detour are the villages of Liebenburg, Salzgitter-Bad and Oelber am Weißen Weg with their historic castles and palaces, which are a little off the route.

The Innersteradweg (here the section between Lautenthal and Wildemann) leads through idyllic nature directly along the Innerste. Here it runs parallel to the road, but not directly next to it, like cycle paths usually do. It feels like you just drive on a paved path through the most beautiful forest, as it runs on the former railway line.
