Hiking Highlight
From Ellmauer Halt you have a magnificent view to the Alps. Meanwhile, there is a lot of loose boulders on the entire trail. At the end of June there was still plenty of snow. A lot of rockfall, so always with helmet. The Babenstuber hut is a pure emergency shelter.

The Babenstuber hut is located in the middle of the Wilder Kaiser at 2300 meters above sea level, directly below the summit of the Ellmauer Halts. The summit can either be reached via the easy Gamsanger via ferrata, which is also practiced without via ferrata set - although a helmet is ALWAYS recommended, as there is a lot of rockfall. Or out of the Kaisertal valley over the Kaiserschützensteig, the much less busy via ferrata to Ellmauer Halt.
The hut is mostly used by climbers as a base to enter eg early in the routes around the Kopftörlgrat. But even if the weather front suddenly rises, you can retire to the Small Wooden House.
