The Ermitage in Arlesheim is the largest English landscape garden in Switzerland. It was created on the initiative of the wife of the then prince-bishop's bailiff Franz Carl von Andlau, Balbina von Andlau, and her cousin, the canon Heinrich von Ligertz in the Gobenmatt valley, a few minutes' walk from the village center of Arlesheim.
