Very good view and interesting story about the German-German division. The Hedrastein is also known as the tower of unity.

From 504m high Heldrastein you have a look far into the country. Even if a few kilometers away, the Normannstein Castle above Treffurt can already be recognized. The Heldrastein is on the move. Lime is dissolved by the penetrating water into the rocky stone slopes and I gradually set individual rock shells in motion and at some point a plaice plunges down to the valley and tears more rocks with it.

On the tower of the unit a wide view to the west is possible if the weather permits

Heldrastein, with views over the valley and a delicious service. It is a former site of the VfL 1862 Wanfried e.V.

The climb to Heldrastein from Treffurt is crisp, but is compensated with a terrific view. It is worth a trip to the nearby Dreiherrenstein. The way there is largely flat, the view from there also class.

The ascent from Heldra is challenging and requires a good level of fitness. Inexperienced Sunday afternoon excursions are WARNED here! The view completely compensates for the exertion!

The IG Heldrastein lovingly takes care of the operation and maintenance of the observation tower, the gastronomy and the hiking destinations in the immediate vicinity. You can see that a lot of commitment and passion is invested here.
Sometimes less is more: right at the Heldrastein you are overwhelmed by sculptures, carvings and installations. The path in the immediate vicinity to and from the Heldrastein is also littered with signs, learning boards and explanations. Less than 50 meters without at least one sign.
Most of the people who are drawn to this beautiful place hike or bike out of passion. Nature is a beloved and familiar environment. Those people who need a sign to distinguish a beech from an oak do not read it anyway.
Please do not misunderstand, but as I said: "Sometimes less is more!".

The Heldrastein is in Thuringia on the border with Hesse. The original name Hellerstein
called the "bright stone" that towers over the Werra valley and can be seen from afar. In the last century it was also known as
"The Giant of the Werra Valley". Its appearance has changed
I changed throughout history. While in the 19th century its limestone cliffs stretched far into the Werra valley
shone, today its cliffs are heavily covered by trees.(...from information board)
