The medieval castle towers high above Sargans and offers a wonderful view of the valley. The complex was first mentioned in documents in 1282, and a large number of renovations and additions followed. The tower is home to the Sarganserland Museum and its outer walls measure two and a half meters on the ground floor. There is also a restaurant in the castle that is open from March to December.

The castle stands on a rock that divided the Rhine glacier in the last ice age. One arm spilled towards Lake Constance, the other towards Lake Walen. A rather rare geological constellation. You can get a good view of it from the palace terrace.
