The Varna Opera (Bulgarian: Варненската опера) is an opera house in Varna, Bulgaria. It is part of the Opera and Philharmonic of Varna, founded by a merger of the Opera and the Philharmonic in 1999. The theater itself originally opened in 1947 [1]
The history of the theater, now known as the Varna Opera Theater, dates back to 1912, when the theater was laid. Its establishment was temporary because of the coming delayed Balkan wars. [2] After the wars ended, the theater was inaugurated in 1932. It was registered under the title of Varna Public Opera House on April 6, 1947 and was officially opened on August 1 of the same year. Stefan Nikolaev was appointed the first director of the theater and Peter Raichev, a respected Bulgarian singer, was invited to be the first art director.
