The new coastal freeway goes high above the valleys and villages that lined the old coastal road from Irun to Santiago, essentially consisting of alternating bridges and tunnels. While the architectural aesthetics might be questionable, albeit modern, the advantages of calming down the highway for bikers is palpable: Almost no traffic.

The last of the country's major highways runs through almost all of northern Spain. From the border with France, in Irún, to connect with the A-6 in Bahamonde, Galicia. A route of epic cuts that runs between the sea and the mountain. Its impressive viaducts are mixed with a varied gastronomic and heritage culture. Thanks to this, the landmarks to see on the A-8, the Cantabrian Highway, are almost unfathomable. For all the above, touring it from end to end is a fantastic getaway option for a weekend.
