The neo-renaissance building of the National Museum has been an important dominant feature of the upper part of Wenceslas Square since 1891. The museum has not been significantly renovated since its construction, but it was damaged by two military attacks in 1945 and 1968. The costly renovation aims to save this important cultural national monument and transform it into modern museum space.
The new permanent exposures represent the largest exhibition project in Czech history. They are based on the collection character of the museum, where historical and scientific topics are combined. At the same time, the most modern forms of presentation, audiovisual and interactive media are used. In total, around 80,000 collectibles will be exhibited on an area of 12,000 square meters.
