Tower with good views over the old town and an incredibly great clock.
The astronomical clock consists of three main components: the astronomical dial, which represents the position of the sun and moon as well as the zodiac signs; the "Way of the Apostles", a clockwork with illustrations of apostles and other movable sculptures that appear hourly; and a calendar work with monthly and daily display.

The town hall stands on the west side of the Old Town Square. The first town hall dates back to the 13th century. In the 14th century, a mighty tower was added, and more buildings were added as a result. From the original construction the gothic portal and the oriel chapel in the tower remained. In the western part is an early Gothic vault. The ornate portal dates back to 1480 and was probably designed by Matthias Rejsek. The facade was later remodeled. It is dominated by a Renaissance window from around 1520. At the end of the 15th century, behind the tower, a new town hall with a large hall was built for prestigious purposes. This was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century and replaced by a neo-Gothic building. After a fire in 1945, only a small part is preserved below the tower. Inside, the hall of the Neo-Renaissance city council and the mayor's study are preserved.

On the ground floor of the town hall tourist information is housed. The historical rooms of the building on the second floor as well as in the basement can be visited as part of a guided tour.
From the 41 m high town hall tower you have an incomparable view of the Old Town Square and the old town. You can climb either with difficulty, or you can take the elevator first to the third floor, from there it is barrier-free with the next elevator to the panoramic walk. The tower is open Mon 11-22 clock, Tue-Sun 9-22 clock.

600-year-old astronomical clock. On the hour (from 9 to 22 clock) great spectacle because of the animations in the city hall clock.

The town hall was built in the Gothic style, the round and pointed arch windows are striking. The construction of the town hall began in 1381, and gradually the building was expanded on this corner. By the way, the town hall can be visited, especially the view from the town hall tower in the middle of the old town is great.

The astronomical clock (Orloj) was completed towards the end of the 15th century on the south wall. However, some parts of the clock are even older, such as the astronomical dial: it dates from 1410. It is decorated with various figures, with the figure of the Grim Reaper in particular always attracting eerie, respectful looks. In the 17th century, the clock was supplemented by moving figures: the well-known procession of the twelve apostles, which still sets off every hour on the hour to the sound of bells.

The clock has three different hands: The sun hand moves with the course of the sun throughout the year. The moon hand shows the course of the moon and the phases of the moon while rotating around its own axis. And finally the ecliptic for the signs of the zodiac, it shows in which zodiac sign the sun is currently located.

The old town hall and the astronomical clock were badly damaged during the war in 1945. It was even feared that the complex clockwork could hardly be restored. After an extensive restoration, the clock was back in operation in 1948.

The town hall was completed in 1364 with the completion of the almost 70 m high tower. The world famous city hall clock was installed in 1410.

The Old Town Hall with the Astronomical Clock (Orloj) is probably the most popular postcard motif from Prague. The town hall tower offers a spectacular view thanks to its gallery.

Prices for the tour of the tower:
    Adults - 250 CZK
    Concessions - 150 CZK

The clock's astronomical dial was made in 1410 and displays Bohemian time from one sunset to the next. The hourly carillon, accompanied by the "little man running", offers a special spectacle.

Since I have to agree with Silvia, it is totally overrated ... beautiful construction, but nothing more.

One of the most famous and oldest tower clocks in the world. After the completion of the clock by Mister Hanus, he was blinded by the people of Prague so as not to be able to do a similar work elsewhere. Before committing suicide in the clockwork, he is said to have cursed the clock...
