    The Masonic (also known as Masonic Temple, or Masonic Auditorium) is a public venue at 1111 California St, formally dedicated in 1958.

    Large sculptures represent the four branches of the Armed Services on its outside wall. A frieze represents a gigantic tug of war between good and evil forces. Inside, a unique mosaic window designed by artist Emile Norman depicts natural themes as well as the professions. It contains gravel and soil from each of the 58 counties in California. Freemasonry came to California in the wake of the Gold Rush of 1849. The first meeting of California Lodge No. 13 took place in 1849 on Montgomery St and was replaced by a new Masonic Hall on Kearny and Pine Streets in 1850, renamed the California Masonic Lodge No 1.
