    Tips

Take the towpath, go past the lock infrastructure to enter what was called the belly of the Charleroi steel industry. On the other side of the Sambre, a grapple pulls scrap metal from barges intended for the steel production of the RIVA factory, formerly Thy-Marcinelle and Thy-le-Château. Kilometers of factories, footbridges, and motionless ore conveyors converge towards a blast furnace at a standstill. Along the Providence shore, sounds, shapes, and colors respond to the ghost factories: an “Urban Dream” street art zone and a customized overhead metro line. It faces the Rockerill, named after the fusion of rock and Cockerill steel, between garage punk and labeled electro. The vegetation here takes on the color of rust. The waters flow to the Industeel cooler, a sign of life from the other steelworks in operation, as evidenced by the pieces of scrap metal littering the towpath. After the overhead metro bridge over the Sambre, ignore an access to the Place de Marchienne on the left. Continue along the towpath, pass under the Sambre bridge. You are in the boatmen's district. Just after the boat-chapel, the Boucle Noire takes a centuries-old alley on the left. It will take you to the centre of the town. (Café le Vieux Marchienne and all resources, Métro Cartier)
