Mountain Biking Highlight
A short stretch of country road leaves Höhnstedt and goes to Egypt. This parcel has had its strange name since the Middle Ages. Due to its protected location and the comparatively mild climate, Sinti or Roma, which local residents simply called Egyptians, overwinter there.Today the valley serves as a wine growing region. The nutrient-rich dry soil and the Mediterranean climate provide a suitable basis for the grape. The rainfall around the Mansfeld lakes is similar to that in Madrid; the attentive hiker could even discover cactus-like plants, arugula and figs.
