Today, the "Faltenbach" is part of the main town of Oberstdorf. In 1848, however, it was still outside the town on the east side of the Trettach and north of the Faltenbach. Stützle managed it as an independent hamlet, although he only had one house. The so-called Galgenbichl was also located there, which testified to the right of jurisdiction acquired in 1495. But at no time was anyone hanged on it.
Stützle does not mention that there was a smelting furnace in the Faltenbach in the 18th century, which belonged to Baron von Hornstein, the donor of the Nepomuk monument. This smelting furnace had already been demolished in 1803. If Reiser is to be believed, there must have been an inn at the end of the 19th century, because he tells of it in the legend "The Witch's House on the Faltenbach".
In the 19th century, there was also a small lime kiln in Faltenbach, which was expanded at the beginning of the 20th century but then demolished again in 1929. Over time, more residential buildings followed and it was only after the Second World War that the current district of Faltenbach was created.

Today, the Schattenbergschanze ski jump, the Federal Ice Skating Centre, the Schützenhaus and the football pitch are some of the most important sports facilities in the town.

The district naturally got its name from the stream of the same name.
