The St. Wendelans also call their basilica Wendelsdom, which was built in the upper town. The hall church has a Gothic style and houses the tomb of St. Wendelin. Inside are beautiful vault paintings.

In 1440, the Archbishop of Trier, Jakob I von Sierck, donated a "Kaff" (square west of the church) to the parish of St. Wendel with the condition that a "common hall and kauffheyß" be built on the square to protect the trade goods from rain and storms. This later became the first town hall. This significantly improved the value of this square, which had previously been a market place for a long time. The street was named after what was offered for sale there = fruit market.
