Hiking Highlight
The Black Hut is the starting point for the alpine hut climbs to the Mindelheimer and Rappenseehütte huts. If you want to go to the southernmost point in Germany, follow the course of the valley even deeper to the end.

The donkey trail runs from the Black Hut to the Rappenseehütte. The trail follows the mountain path up to the Rappenseehütte. After some time steep, but thanks to many trees predominantly shady mountaineering, we reach the pastures of the Rappenalpe. Soon the associated alpine hut will be passed. The ascent further up to the Muskopfsattel, which partly leads over steep - but somewhat wider - alpine paths (connecting routes for the cattle), becomes sunnier and more sweaty.

The Black Hut is located in the Rappenalper valley, in the middle of the valley floor (approx. 1225 m). It is actually a forest hut that served as a shelter for forest workers and their steeds. Until 1995 it belonged to the Free State, but was then sold.
However, in addition to the above, it performed a kind of central function for the valley, because here earlier the carriage traffic to supply the Alps Rappenalp, Biberalp, Haldenwang, the Hinterer Taufersberg and the Mindelheimer and Rappensee hut. From here, the necessities were transported on foot or with mules. A lot has changed since the construction of the transport line to the Rappenseehütte. It is no longer known whether the name, which is probably not yet old, derives from the blackening of a predecessor, such as a brandy hut that used to be there to produce gentian schnapps.

Time seems to have stopped here - the landlady is sitting in the kitchen, the hospitality is provided through the small window in the hallway of the hut - pure nostalgia - last resting point before the climb to the Rappenseehütte
