One of the most beautiful stones in the Saxon. Switzerland! If you do not want to climb up the many steps at the front, just walk the gently rising path from the back onto the stone and enter the cozy mountain restaurant at the end of the ridge trail or the summit tour. The steps then lead you down again quickly.

Such a great rock naturally attracts people, the path is less crowded and the rocks around it, but also super great, single trail with a few grottos.

"The Rauenstein is a table mountain in the Saxon Switzerland, which rises in the interior of the Elbschleife near Rathen from the area, up to 303.7 m above sea level, and slopes north towards the Elbe valley below Almost completely wooded, but has some landscape-dominating sandstone walls. The tourist development of the mountain took place from 1884. Since 1893 there is a mountain restaurant on the eastern part of the Rauenstein plateau. " - de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rauenstein_(Berg)

The Rauenstein is a 304 m high table mountain and is located in the immediate vicinity of the small village of Weißig. The towns of Wehlen and Rathen are only about 30 minutes' walk away. If you climb up the stair-like path to the summit from the east, you will get directly to the mountain restaurant and the panoramic viewpoint. From the bastion to the Lilienstein, one can only imagine the course of the Elbe, which is cut deep into the sandstone. In the north, the entire rocky landscape of the bastion is impressive. Far in the distance you can see the Schrammsteine to the southeast and even further away you can just make out the huge cone of the Rosenberg in the Bohemian Switzerland in the haze. In the south, the Lilienstein and the Königstein dominate the view.saechsische-schweiz.info/elbsandsteingebirge/panorama-rauenstein.html

The Rauenstein is a great destination for hikers with less time or those who like to walk at a good pace. The hike from Wehlen over the Rauensteinweg to Rathen can also be mastered in slow pace in less than 2 hours. Nevertheless, the Rauensteinweg and the Rauenstein offer a lot of variety with deep glades, dense forests, rooted paths and great views of the Lilienstein and the Zirkelstein.

The Rauenstein is a must in Saxon Switzerland ☺
The Gradweg is not as brutal as on the Schrammsteinen but at least as beautiful + the built has a good Gastro and a very clean toilet 👍👍👍

The Rauenstein offers great views, from the direction of Wehlen, the climb is very comfortable, the descent can then be made on the many steps towards Weißig. So climbing is also possible with children, however, should always be paid attention, as there are many unsecured places, such as. a sandy cave with an open end to the abyss, which will reward everyone with unforgettable views. As a destination then lures the restaurant on the Rauenstein.

Walking over the Rauensteine is a challenge. I was limited in my hips and had my difficulties. For someone who walks on their back with a child, it is not recommended at all. Children should be at least 5-6 years old. You shouldn't be afraid of heights either. There are always steps up and down, sometimes made of stone, sometimes made of bars. Not all are sure-footed. Once there was a step missing, so I had to rely on my husband's help to get down. But a very nice view all around.

This is probably the trail across the Rauenstein. A must, who does not know him. Great view, but many (nice) people.

Unfortunately, often overcrowded by hikers😕Alternatively, I recommend the Large and Small Bear Stone 🐻⛰ with equally breathtaking views 😃

The ridge path on the Rauenstein is a dream. Whether to the left or right, you get great looks everywhere. But be careful: there is plenty of activity up there! 🥺

The Rauenstein is a 305 m high mountain on the left bank of the Elbe in Saxon Switzerland near Weißig. The 8th stage of the Malerweg leads over the Rauenstein. There were hardly any other hikers on our visit. The view is great and there is something new to discover around every corner.

From Pötzscha, a district of the city of Wehlen, it is only a "stone's throw" to the Rauenstein, as you are already on the right side of the Elbe. It is a leisurely uphill walk and ladders help to bridge these at the steeper points. There are wonderful views of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains from the various vantage points. Afterwards you can hike along the Bärensteine to the Kaisernase. Here then descent to Obervogel-Gesang and return by train to Pötzscha or along the Elbe back to Pötzscha.

There is a fantastic panorama here, and the climb up many stairs is definitely worth it. I counted about 440 stairs to the restaurant.
