Lány Castle (interior is inaccessible to the public) is located in the Soutok enclosure, not far from the confluence of the rivers Thaya (Dyje) and March (Morava), just before the Austrian-Czech border. It is located about 7 km south of Breclau (Břeclav), in the floodplain forest. The area is crossed by tourist trails, nature trails, canals, rivulets, ponds and blind arms of the rivers. The beautifully blossomed meadows form carpets of flowers in spring and rare birds sing in the tree tops. The whole landscape was a hunting domain of the Liechtensteiners - they loved this area and often they started out for a hunt. The game ended with a binge in Lány Castle, which was built for this purpose in the years 1810 - 1810, according to the design by the architect Joseph Hartmuth - pencil inventor. The Lány castle has the rectangular shape of a one-story empire building and is adorned by a semicircular pavilion with pillars. In the years of the Cold War from 1948 to 1989, access to this beautiful area was prohibited due to the proximity of the iron curtain to the western neighbor (Austria). The uniqueness and integrity of the biotopic enclave was saved and fully preserved over the years of industrialization and collectivization. Today the floodplain forests are fully accessible to the general public. In this area (approx. 4,200 ha), large game (deer and fallow deer) is also kept in limited numbers due to biting.
