The natural shelter is a kind of prehistoric dolmen formed by a huge rock resting on others that form the pedestals of the megalith. One of the stories related to this mountain spot tells of an excessively greedy neighbor in the valley. The countryman made a pact with the devil to enrich himself and when the time came to pay the price of the treasure with his soul, he repented, fleeing to the mountain forests in search of refuge. The demon did not take long to find the man, who was hiding in the hollow of some rocks praying to the Virgin for help. The miracle happened and the Virgin defeated the devil, freeing the devout mountain man from his diabolical pact. At that time the man decided to take vows of poverty and became a hermit in the same place where the events took place, which is now known as Cueva del Monje.
