The Sophienbrunnen was opened in 1925 near the old drinking hall in the Kurpark at a depth of 18 meters and from 1927 it was "popularly drunk". Unfortunately, fresh water kept flowing in over time depending on the groundwater level, so that the well was always differently mineralized. For this reason, today's Sophienbrunnen was opened in 1953 near the Leopoldsprudel at a new location.
