  • The Petrikirche is the only evangelical reformed church in the city of Herford. It is the first church in the city to be built as a Protestant church. It was created in the years 1901-1902. The Evangelical churches of Münster, Johannis, Marien and Jakobi that were built before became Evangelical-Lutheran after the Reformation (source: Wikipedia).

  • The church is a central building in the style of the 14th century with a cross-shaped floor plan. Hugo Schneider, architect and professor at the Royal Art Academy in Kassel, was responsible for the architecture. The crossing measures 13 × 13 meters in plan, the clear height from the floor to the top of the vault is 12 meters.
The tower is 46 meters high and has a wrap-around gallery below the helmet, which is accessible on special days. The tower carries three bronze bells that form the major triad des1-f1-as1. The bell in the middle is a gift from the city of Herford. It was cast in 1690 as a council and watch bell and bears the inscription My sound bedinet the council, My storm shows fire distress. Let the city be your command, O great God. M. Johann Fricke cast me in 1690.
On the outside of the tower wall there is a commemorative plaque for the Graf Barfuss infantry regiment. This regiment was looked after spiritually from 1914 to 1918 by the Petri parish. The plaque was installed by a traditional community in 1929 (Source: Wikipedia)
