The Himmelsfürst Fundgrube silver mine was, together with the Himmelfahrt Fundgrube, the most productive and best-known Saxon ore mine in the 19th century.

From 1596 to 1885, Himmelsfürst produced profits almost continuously. A total of 650 t of silver were mined.

In July 1889, construction work began at the same time on the railway line from Berthelsdorf to Großhartmannsdorf and on the branching route to Langenau. Since only a few larger engineering structures had to be built, such as the pillar viaducts near Erbisdorf and Himmelsfürst, the route was completed after a year of construction. The new secondary railway was opened on July 13, 1890 together with the Berthelsdorf – Großhartmannsdorf route and the Freiberg – Halsbrücke route north of Freiberg. On June 1, 1997, the last passenger trains ran from Freiberg to Langenau with great interest from the population.
